Appalachian Region Photographs collection

Abstract

The Appalachian Region Photographs collection contains print photographs and negatives of the Appalachian region, mostly Northwestern North Carolina, but also some parts of Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. It contains photographs, slides, and negatives. Images include Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, and Watauga Counties, and unidentified images of towns, people, and museum exhibits.

Abstract

The Appalachian State University Oral History Projects, Audio Materials and Papers Collection is a mixture of audiocassettes from several oral history projects, conferences, and events, dating in the 1970s-1980s, some of which have been positively identified as to which project the interview is related while others are not. A few transcriptions, CD copies, and duplicates are also part of this collection.

Mary Huff poems

Scope and Contents This collection consists of approximately 77 typed poems, written by Mary Huff, a librarian at Appalachian State University from 1942-1982. The bulk of the poems were written in 1947. Their primary subject is William Leonard Eury, head librarian. The notebook was given to Eury by Huff, as indicated by the two dedications to him. The first states that the poems refer to other men as well as Eury, and the second states their rightful ownership belongs to Eury as they were written to him,...

Abstract The Miscellaneous Oral History Transcripts consists of 41 transcriptions oral interviews of 49 Watauga County, North Carolina residents. Interviews were conducted in 1973 and 1997. Interviewees discuss folkways such as food and clothings, church participation, education, personal history, holiday traditions, wedding customs, local history, race relations, moonshining, and the Great Depression. This collection consists of issues of "The Adventures of Ellis Touquet" newsletters published between May-September 1988. According to the first issue, the newsletter was a library newsletter "devoted to answering questions about LS2000 and providing staff with updates on planning and activities related to automation throughout the library."
