Abstract The Doris Stam collection consists of artifacts, correspondence, oral histories, papers, and photographs the Bartlett, Brown, Dougherty, Perry, Shull, and Taylor families. The collection also contains material from the early days of Appalachian State University and history of Boone, North Carolina. Doris Stam gathered the material of this collection while writing her book "Mountain Educators: The Dougherty Family and the First Fifty Years of Appalachian."

Scope and Contents The Dougherty family Bible that was in the possession of the Dougherty family. The book was originally owned by Lillie Shull Dougherty. Lillie Brown Perry, granddaughter of D.D. and Lillie Shull Dougherty, donated the Bible to the University Archives in July 2005. It contains a register with the family births, deaths, and marriages. The Bible also includes clippings and loose material.
