Department of English records
The Department of English Records contain administrative and academic files, as well as correspondence between the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of English, the chairperson, and other department faculty.

Department of Geography and Planning records
The Department of Geography and Planning Records contain weather reports, dating 1928-1971. B.B. Dougherty opened a weather station on campus in 1928, which operated until 1971, during which time Dougherty and other operators collected daily weather reports. The records also include Neal Lineback's Geography in the News articles that were published in The Watauga Democrat. These are dated from 1987 to 1991. There are also two indexes covering all articles from 1987 to 2003.

Department of Health, Leisure, and Exercise Science records
Health and Physical Education courses have been taught at Appalachian since at least 1921 and in 1991, the department was renamed The Department of Health, Leisure and Exercise Science (HLES) and currently operates in the College of Health Sciences. The Department of Health, Leisure, and Exercise Science Records contain information on committees, programs and facilities from the early years of the program.

Department of Leadership and Educational Studies records
The Department of Leadership and Educational Studies records contain two main divisions – Departmental Personnel Committee Files, and Library Science Program records. The papers consist of meeting minutes, program histories, curricula, correspondence, ephemera, and photographs. Also included is a scrapbook from the Library Science Training Institute.
Department of Mathematical Sciences records
The Department of Mathematical Sciences is part of the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University and offers degrees in mathematics, mathematics education, actuarial sciences, and statistics. The Department of Mathematical Sciences records include faculty correspondence and information related to departmental faculty meetings.
Department of Philosophy and Religion records
The Department of Philosophy and Religion was established in 1965 and since 1968, has been in the College of Arts and Sciences. These records contain academic and administrative files including meeting minutes, faculty annual reports to the department, teaching evaluations, syllabi, guidelines, and other papers pertaining to courses and coursework between 1970 and 1996.
Department of Psychology records
The Department of Psychology Records are primarily composed of administrative files relevant to the department. Documents include correspondence, course syllabi, grant proposals, policy and procedure reports, long-range plans, and information on curriculum. There are also memos from the Personnel Office, Registrar's Office, the Graduate School, the College of Arts and Sciences, Academic Affairs, the College of Education, and Business Affairs.

This collection contains the draft manuscript for the booklet "Development of Public Education in Watauga County, N.C." edited by Tom Corbitt of the ASU News Bureau and published in 1976.
Division of Continuing Education records
The Office of Continuing Education Records contain mostly administrative files and program information dating 1964-1998. Administrative files include duplicate records of Dr. James W. Jackson, correspondence, planning documents, schedules, evaluations and reports. Program information files include course offerings, schedules, participant lists, proposals and press releases.
Division of University Advancement records
The Division of University Advancement at Appalachian State University supports and encourages the university’s academic mission by engaging alumni and friends and the local community through news, special programming, and direct contact. The University Advancement Records contain administrative, operating, fundraising, correspondence, historical and reporting documents, dating 1911-2008, with the bulk of the material dating 1991-1994.
Doris Stam collection
The Doris Stam collection consists of artifacts, correspondence, oral histories, papers, and photographs the Bartlett, Brown, Dougherty, Perry, Shull, and Taylor families. The collection also contains material from the early days of Appalachian State University and history of Boone, North Carolina. Doris Stam gathered the material of this collection while writing her book "Mountain Educators: The Dougherty Family and the First Fifty Years of Appalachian."

Original Appalachian Training School diploma of Dorothy Maye Hayes of Blowing Rock, NC. She graduated in 1923.
Dougherty Family Bible
The Dougherty family Bible that was in the possession of the Dougherty family. The book was originally owned by Lillie Shull Dougherty. Lillie Brown Perry, granddaughter of D.D. and Lillie Shull Dougherty, donated the Bible to the University Archives in July 2005. It contains a register with the family births, deaths, and marriages. The Bible also includes clippings and loose material.

This collection contains photographs of the Dougherty family, as well as members from the Shull and Brown families.
Edmund King Collection on Tom Keefe
The collection includes correspondence between Edmund J. King, professor at the University of Sheffield and Tom Keefe, professor at Appalachian State University, from 1978-1998. It also includes a program from "A Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Tom Keefe" and a copy of the address delivered by King at this event. The Special Collections Research Center is the home of Tom Keefe's book collection.
Elizabeth Brown Scoggins Collection
The Elizabeth Brown Scoggins collection contains papers, photographs, documents, and artifacts spanning the history of Appalachian State and Watauga County from the 19th Century to the early 21st. Much of the collection is devoted to the Dougherty, Brown, and Bartlett families with an emphasis on concerning B.B. and D.D. Dougherty, founders of what would become Appalachian State University.

Emma Horton Moore Scrapbook
The scrapbook was compiled by Emma Horton Moore, librarian at the Appalachian State Teachers College. The scrapbook holds newsclippings the school, its students, and its faculty, especially B. B. and D. D. Dougherty. It ranges in date from circa 1907-1957.
"Emphasis Faculty Information" booklets
This collection consists of three booklets produced by the College of Education for their faculty. They range in date from 1984-1985. The booklets include an update from the Dean, job descriptions of office staff, the College's mission statement, and more information specific to the College. The earliest booklet is titled "Emphasis." The second issue is titled "Emphasis, too." The third issue is titled "Emphasis . . . III."
"Emphasis" newsletters
This collection consists of the "Emphasis" newsletter produced by the College of Education at Appalachian State University. Its purpose was to keep alumni informed of what was happening within the College. The issues range in date from 1985-1993.
Essie Dalton Briggs collection
Eula Todd Diary
This diary was kept by Eula Todd, circa 1931. Todd taught seventh grade at Appalachian's Demonstration School from circa 1924 through the 1930s. The diary entries concern her health, local weather, her participation in the Delphian Club, colleagues, her teaching preparation and duties, her students, local athletics, and her friends.

The Faculty Senate Records collection contains files collected by the chairs of the Senate of the actions of the Senate, Board of Governors, Board of Trustees, and Faculty Assembly of the University of North Carolina. More files will be added as archival copies are collected.
