Scope and Contents
This collection contains materials relating to the sorority group Alpha Kappa Alpha. In January of 2008, the Omicron Kappa chapter based at Appalachian, celebrated its twentieth anniversary at Appalachian, and the 100th anniversary of the sorority as a whole. The collection includes a schedule of the celebration and a souvenir booklet. Also information about the chapter printed from their website can be found in the accession. Also included is a Library News release of the University Archives' receipt of the accession as well as pictures on a compact disc and printer paper.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA), is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African-American college-educated women. The Omicron Kappa Chapter at Appalachian State University was established in 1988.
