Scope and Contents
The John A. Pritchett Photographic Collection consists of negatives taken between 1952 and 1960 by Appalachian State University's photographer, John A. Pritchett, Jr. Most of the negatives appeared in the school yearbook. They include images of students, buildings, sports, and some faculty. There are also a number of images of students and activities at Appalachian High School, which was in what is now Chapel Wilson Hall. Some of the photos are undated, only a few are unidentifiable.

Biographical Note
John A. Pritchett, Jr. (1925- ), was born in Nashville, Tennessee to John A. and Ethel Griffith Pritchett.
During World War II, Pritchett served as a war department photographer. He attended East Tennessee State University, where he met and married Agnes Robinette. The couple had three children. He later transferred to George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, where he received an A. B. in English and Social Studies. In 1946, he earned an A. B. in music and social studies and in 1947 he completed an M. A. in sociology and school administration.
Pritchett began his career at Appalachian in 1955, where he organized and developed the department of audio-visual education. He spent 37 years at ASU as a professor and director of audio-visual eduction before retiring. In 1991 Pritchett was made Professor Emeritus of Curriculum and Instruction.

Pritchett Photograph Collection contains negatives taken between 1952-1960. Subjects include sports, dances, ASTC campus and students, student activities, and faculty. The photographer is unknown.
