Telegraph from W. B. Yonce to William D. Roedel

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of one handwritten telegraph and its envelope. The telegraph was sent by W. B. (William Brown) Yonce in Salem, Va. to William Roedel in Wytheville, Va. regarding the health of Yonce's brother, Benjamin. It reads "Brother Benjamin more unwell today. Fears entertained that he cannot recover." Benjamin died the next day.

Biographical Note

W. B. (William Brown) Yonce was born on January 26, 1827 to Peter Yonce and Alley Brown Yonce. He was married to Eliza Victoria Glossbrenner and was a professor at Roanoke College. He died on March 22, 1895 in Roanoke, Virginia.

Benjamin Yonce as born April 14, 1832 in Wythe County, Virginia to Peter Yonce and Alley Brown Yonce. He died on March 18, 1860 at Roanoke College.

Rev. William D. Roedel was born on January 1, 1829 in Lebanon County, Pa. He was married to C. Josephine Forney Roedel. He died on December 12, 1865 in Wytheville, Va.
