Scope and Contents

This collection consists of a broadside printed by Piedmont Press of a letter written by Walter W. Lenoir of Shull's Mill (Watauga County, N. C.) defending himself against an article about him published in Raleigh's The News & Observer. He defends the progress made across the state since the ouster of the Republican Party from controlling the state.

Biographical Note

Walter Waightstill Lenoir was born in Caldwell County, North Carolina in 1823 to Thomas and Selina Lenoir. He served the Confederate States of American during the Civil War and on September 1, 1862, he received a wound which resulted in the amputation of his right leg. One of his prosthetic He moved to Watauga County, North Carolina in 1876 and was elected to the N. C. General Assembly in 1883. He died in 1890.
