Historical Note
The Training Teachers of Teachers (TTT) Program began at Appalachian in 1969 when Herbert Wey, who had previously initiated the program at University of Miami, became president of ASU. The program lasted until 1974 and was designed to improve teaching at all levels, by providing an interdisciplinary program for graduate level professors, and had a particular focus in math and science. Other goals of the program included: providing participants with recent theories in learning and teaching, conducting studies of participant’s teaching areas, and to provide practicum experiences, group interactions and seminars. In this vein, Watauga College (now Watauga Global Community) was established in 1972, in conjunction with the TTT program. TTT was funded entirely by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare and was directed by the Dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Cratis Williams.
