Scope and Contents

This collection consists of the 1905-1906 announcement for Corona Industrial College, located in Corona, Alabama. The third annual session was scheduled to open on September 4th. The announcement includes background information about the school as well as promotes why people should attend. The pamphlet says that men can earn from $1.50 to $5/$6 a day in the mines and that those with families can send all of their children to school for $1.00 per month. The school also provided young men and women with the opportunity to both work and learn a trade.

Historical Note

The Corona Industrial College was established around 1903 by the Corona Coal and Iron Company of Alabama. It was established for the purpose of giving African Americans in the area, many of whome were coal miners, the opportunity for an education.
