Scope and Content

This collection conists of photocopies of 50 letters written to Carolyne Hamlin Badgett from her mother (Eva Hamlin), her sister (Dorothy Hayes), and niece (Susan Hamilin) when she was a freshman at Appalachian State Teachers College in 1957-1958.

Biographical Note

Carolyne Jane Hamlin Badgett graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College with a B. S. degree in 1961. She married Sam Badgett. After graduation she taught first grade in Winston-Salem, North Carolina until 1965. She took a break from teaching after giving birth to twins in 1965. In 1968 she took a teaching job at Dobson Elementry School in Surry County, North Carolina, where she remained until her retirement in 1996. She was named "Teacher of the Year" in 1983-1984 and was selected for "Who's Who Amoung America's Teachers" in 1996.

Abstract

Carolyne Jane Hamlin Badgett graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College with a B.S. degree in 1961. She taught in Winston-Salem, North Carolina until 1965. After taking time off, she took a teaching job at Dobson Elementry School in Surry County, North Carolina, where she remained until her retirement in 1996. This collection consists of photocopies letters written to Carolyne Hamlin Badgett during her freshman year of college at Appalachian State Teachers College.
