Miles Memorial School collection

Identifier: AC-375

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of three duplicate broadsides announcing the 1903 opening of the Miles Memorial School's second session "under the auspices of the C.M.E. Church for the education of Colored youths of both sexes." The school was located in Booker City, Alabama. The broadside describes the school setting, terms for board and tuition, course of study, and ad for building lots in town, a request for "each pastor of the North Alabama Conference to send at least one student," and plans for a new girls dormitory. The verso of each broadside was used to prepare a manuscript draft of a welcoming speech for an assembly of the North Alabama Conference of the A.M.E. Church, unsigned but possibly by M. E. Taylor, named on the broadside as president of the school.
