Richard R. Pierce photograph collection
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of photographs accumulated and possibly taken by Richard R. Pierce while a student at Appalachian State Teachers College. Pierce was a staff member for both the yearbook and the student newspaper, and some of the images were published. Many of the photographs center around student life. Students were photographed on campus and at other locations and engaged in various activities such as sunbathing and playing in the snow. Some are posed while others are candid shots. There are also profile photographs of students, some of which appeared in the yearbook. Another major subject of Pierce's photographs is athletics, primarily football and wrestling, including photographs of Flucie Stewart. Other subjects include archery, an A Club initiation, members of the Appalachian Twirling Club, campus buildings, and the May Day Court.
In addition to the photographs is a card which acknowledges a $2.00 donation towards the war memorial sponsored by the Appalachian Memorial Association.
