Scope and Contents

This collection consists of five items. One item is a typescript letter written to Baker on August 6, 1965 by F. P. Bodenheimer. Bodenheimer served on the Board of Trustees and as an officer of the Alumni Association at Appalachian and wrote to Baker about the upcoming Alumni College event. One item is a handwritten letter to Baker by John Corey of the Alumni Association, dated 1965, about the upcoming alumni event, possibly the same referred to in Bodenheimer's letter. There are also three certificates issued by the Appalachian Alumni College. Two were awarded to Bobby Joe and the other was awarded to his wife, alumna Rebecca Hoover Baker, who is identified as "Mrs. Bobby Joe Baker" on the certificate. One is dated 1965 and two are dated 1967.

Biographical Note

Bobby Joe Baker was born on September 26, 1931 in Rocky Mount, NC to Melvin and Lucille Baker. He graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1954, where he played football. He married his college sweetheart, Rebecca Hoover, in August 1954. Baker died in Raleigh, NC on August 15, 2010.
