Scope and Contents

This prospectus contains two maps on one side and a description of the land, as well as the business proposal and list of subscribers, on the verso. One map is titled "Plan of the Oil Region of Pennsylvania, 1865" and shows the land owned by the three proposing companies along Tionesta Creek, as well as Crawford County, Venango County, Warren County, and Forest County. There are two hand-colored areas around Oil Springs on this map with one labelled, in pen, as No. 400. The second map is a detail of one of the hand-colored areas on the first map, showing three hand-colored sections labelled No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3, for the respective petroleum companies. There is a single subscriber listed, following the description of the land and the prospectus: Elisha Wells of Deerfield, Massachusetts, who had taken 10 shares of $1000.
