Scope and Contents
The Beulah C. Campbell Collection contains Campbell's personal files, her collection of original illustrations for children's books, materials related to various authors and illustrators of children's books, administrative files related to Campbell's collection of children's book illustrations, and materials related to a memorial for Reverend Paul Burt, a friend of Campbell. Personal files contain biographical information and photographs of Campbell, files related the The Boone Companions and their newsletter The Screwberry, and audio and video recordings related to Campbell's career. Materials related to various authors and illustrators of children's books include original illustrations and book layouts for children's books, general research files on authors and illustrators, original manuscripts, photographs, and audio and video materials related to authors and illustrators. Administrative files include general collection information, inventories and appraisals, publicity and press, related correspondence, exhibit materials, materials related to the May Hill Arbuthnot Lectureship, and materials related to symposiums and conferences on children's literature. Revered Paul Burt Memorial materials contain manuscripts, correspondence, and other items related to a memorial book for Burt created by James Ayars.

No interlibrary loan.
Access Restrictions
This collection is open for use in the Dougherty Reading Room with some restrictions. Original audio and video cassettes and reels are restricted. User access copies of these materials are available where noted in the finding aid. An appointment for research is recommended. The Dougherty Reading Room is located on the 4th floor of Belk Library in Special Collections.
Biographical Note
Beulah Catherine Campbell (1916-2016) was a retired children’s literature and elementary education professor at Appalachian State University. She was born on May 7, 1916 in Campbellsville, Kentucky and received an A. B. in elementary education from Western Kentucky State University in 1941. Campbell served as an elementary and college level educator from 1943 until her retirement in 1981. She worked at the Elementary Demonstration School at Appalachian State Teachers' College in 1943 and taught college classes in elementary education in the summer school from 1945-46. From 1957 until her retirement in 1981, Campbell taught in the the College of Learning and Human Development, later the College of Education, at Appalachian State University. She was awarded emerita status in 1981. Campbell passed away on November 12, 2016.

Arrangement
The Beulah C. Campbell Collection is divided into the following four series: Series I: Beulah C. Campbell Personal Files, Series II: Authors and Illustrators, Series III: Collection Administrative Files, and Series IV: Reverend Paul Burt Memorial Materials. In Series I and II, any original art, audio materials, color photographs, and video materials are listed and stored seperately. Series II is arranged alphabetically by author or illustrators last name, with materials on multiple authors and illustrators or unidentified materials coming at the end of the series. Series III and IV are arranged alphabetically in files according to the content of the files.
Acquisitions Information
The majority of the collection was donated to Appalachian State University by Beulah Campbell in 1979. Additions to the collection were transferred from the Appalachian Cultural Museum Records (AC.2011.032) in 2011.
Processing Information
The artwork in this collection was cataloged by Celia Whitlock before 2011. The collection was processed and the finding aid was written by David Funderburk in July 2013.
