Alice Justice Kinder Manuscript contains the proofs for Alice Kinder's The Call of the Kentucky Mountains: A Sequel to Willie-Boy. The plot of The Call of the Kentucky Mountains: A Sequel to Willie-Boy focuses on the life of the Justice family after William Justice graduated from high school. Autobiographical in nature, it describes Justice's early years as a school teacher and husband and follows his life through until his death.

Alice J. Kinder was native to Pikeville, Kentucky and worked a school teacher. She wrote the "Mountain Roots" column for the Appalachian News-Express in Pikeville, Kentucky and approximate twelve books including Climbing Steps : a history of the Grace Baptist Church, 1947- 1964 (1965), Mama's Kitchen Windows: Vignettes from Life in the Kentucky Hills (1977), Papa's Neighbors: Glimpses of Life in the Kentucky Hills (1979), Mama's Pathway to Heaven (1983), Papa's Walking Shoes (1986), Old-fashioned Mountain Mothers (1981), Mountain Seasons (1986), Mountain Mothers I: Mountain Roots (1986), William C. Hambley: the Mayor Who Moved a Mountain (1988), Willie-Boy (1988), The Call of the Kentucky Mountains: A Sequel to Willie-Boy (1994), Family Roots (1994). Pikeville College awarded Kinder an honorary doctorate degree for her writing. Kinder also received two Kentucky Colonel awards for her contributions to Appalachian literature.

The Alice Justice Kinder manuscript contains the proof copies of the novel, "The Call of the Kentucky Mountains: A Sequel to Willie-Boy" by Alice J. Kinder and her father William M. Justice. "Willie-Boy" and "The Call of the Kentucky Mountains: A Sequel to Willie-Boy" were based on an autobiography written by William Justice prior to his death in 1968. Kinder adapted and published it.
