This is a collection gathered from the 1982 World's Fair held in Knoxville, Tennessee by Mary Greene of Watauga County, North Carolina, who was a member of the World's Fair staff. This collection is divided into two series: 162A. Books and Official World's Fair Publications Series and 162B. Nonofficial World's Fair Materials Series. Oversized materials are stored separately.

This collection is open for use in the Dougherty Reading Room. An appointment for research is recommended. The Dougherty Reading Room is located on the 4th floor of Belk Library in Special Collections.
Historical note
The 1982 World's Fair was originally called the Knoxville International Energy Exposition, and the theme was "Energy Turns the World." The fair opened on May 1, 1982, and closed on October 31, 1982. There were over 11 million visitors. Participating nations included Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States, and West Germany. In 2007, the East Tennessee Historical Society opened an exhibit commemorating the 25th anniversary of the World's Fair.
