Carolinas Communication Association Records
Scope and Contents Note
The collection is separated into three series. Series I, Journal Publications, 1953-2011, includes copies of journal publications produced by the organization over its existence, including the North Carolina Journal of Speech, the North Carolina Journal of Speech and Drama, and the Carolinas Speech Communication Annual. Materials are arranged chronologically. Series II, North Carolina Speech and Drama Association, 1950-1980, consists of the papers of the NCSDA, including meeting minutes, correspondence, membership information, constitution and resolutions, annual meeting information, ephemeral publications, and financial records. Materials are arranged by subject, and chronologically within each subject. Series III, Carolinas Speech Communication Association and Carolinas Communication Asssociation, 1972-2011, contains the papers of the CSCA and the subsequent CCA, including membership information, financial records, committee meeting minutes, brochures, and annual conference information. Collection also includes two VHS recordings of special programs from the 1992 convention and an oral history of the organization, as well as a floppy disk of the organization's financial and membership information in 2000. Historical Note
North Carolina Speech and Drama Association and the South Carolina Speech Communication Association merged into the Carolinas Speech Communication Association in 1981 at the initiative of North Carolina Speech Communication Association Director Keith Griffin and University of South Carolina Speech and Theatre Program Chair Bill Strickland. The organization was renamed Carolinas Communiation Association in 1998. It serves as an organization for communication professionals in North and South Carolina, and it hosts an annual conference for communication professionals and college students.

Acquisitions Information
Collection was loaned to Appalachian State University by the Carolinas Communication Association in 2008. Additions to the records were made in 2010 and 2011.
