Scope and Contents
These Office of Equity, Diversity and Compliance Records contain mostly administrative files and reports/surveys concerning initiatives of the office. Administrative files inlcude meeting minutes, planning documents, notes, and correspodence. The reports/surveys address topics including: affirmative actions, faculty emeriti, equal pay, sixth-year programs, athletics, financial audits, economic impact, Discrimination in Employment Act, minority student data, minority enrollment, and compliance policy. The files range from 1970-1997, though the bulk of the material dates 1983-1990 from the Equal Opportunity Administrator Files.

Historical Note
The Office of Equity, Diversity and Compliance (EDC) is charged with ensuring that the dignity of students, employees and campus visitors is upheld, equal access to education and employment is guaranteed, respectful treatment is assured, and an appreciation of differences is fostered for all members of the university community. EDC staff guide and monitor search and hiring procedures, affirmative action and equal opportunity compliance, recruitment and admission strategies, and the exit interview process. Complaints about unlawful harassment or discrimination from any member of the university community are investigated by EDC staff and brought to resolution. EDC staff provide workshops in harassment prevention and responsible human relations to any on- or off-campus class, organization, or unit. EDC sponsors the Open Door program and is a founding sponsor of the annual Diversity Celebration.
The office has had a variety of names and has reported to different offices over the past 15 years, but Equality Opportunity Programs was created at least by 1986, and now, as the Office of Equity, Diversity and Compliance, reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
