Scope and Contents
The writer/owner of this Civil War Journal and Account Book is not identified, and there are scattered dates from 1861-1887, with the journal section being an almost daily account of a soldier's war experiences, from South Carolina to Bull Run to the Hazel River in Virginia. The diary starts with the regiment's muster in date, April 13, 1861 and continues until Feb. 1862. There is also a page with a "list of the dead" from the regiment, listing the name and date of soldier's death. There is also a list of soldiers who mustered out, with names and dates.
The book includes ledger pages and newspaper clippings and almanac enteries cut and pasted to many of the pages. There are also recipes for making honey and soap. A few loose pages are included with photocopies.

The writer and owner of this journal is unknown. The “Col. Bee” referred to in the Civil War journal part on June 4 (1861?) may have been Barnard Elliott Bee, Jr.

Acquisitions Information
The collection along with several books cataloged and placed in Closed Appalachian and the Rare Books Collections was a donation from Roby Triplett, Boone, North Carolina in 2009. It was accessioned as AC.2010.073.

This was processed by Anita Elliott, December 2013. This collection was processed as part of a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The grant funded extensive processing of the backlog within the W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection between 2012 and 2014.
