Scope and Contents
The portrait-stories in this collection are from the people writing in their own words about their lives. Authors include Imogene Braswell, Larry Braswell, Christine Cole, Bernie N. Edwards, Sondra Edwards, Edgar Eller, Patsy Eller, Mary Helen Greene, J.M., Edith Miller, Juanita Trivette Miller, and Meghan Blaire Minton. There are three CDs of portrait stories from the Elk Knob Community Heritage Organization (EKCHO).

Historical Note
Elk Knob Community Heritage Organization (EKCHO), formed in 2008 by community members of Meat Camp, Pottertown, and Sutherland, North Carolina has all-volunteer Board of Directors. The project is closely associated with Appalachian State University.

Abstract
The Elk Knob Community Heritage Organization (EKCHO) Portrait Stories collection contains color copies of twelve handwritten, autobiographical stories with hand-drawn portraits of Elk Knob Community (North Carolina) residents, and copies of them on CD.
Arrangement
The color prints of the actual portrait stories are in an oversize folder in ACSC Box 2. The master CDs with copies of the stories are stored in a small CD box in the Closed Collections.
Acquisitions Information
This collection was a donation of Meghan Minton, EKCHO Community Organizer, in 2009 and accessioned as AC.2009.036.
Processing Information
Processed by Anita Elliott, January 2014. This collection was processed as part of a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The grant funded extensive processing of the backlog within the W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection between 2012 and 2014.
