This collection is an accounts ledger for Capon Mills, run by John W. Frye and family in Hardy County, West Virginia during the time period of 1865-1872. Note that "family" is included as owners because on page 67, a note states that "October 1, 1985 to October 1, 1866 which is now a partnership business which H.W. Frye is to have half of the proffits for the one year, ending October 1, 1866."

Historical Note

This ledger has written on its front inside cover "Capon Mills, Frye and Sons", and on the back inside cover, "John W. Frye, Capon Mills, Capon River, Hardy County, West Virginia." Entries date from 1865 to 1872. This ledger's owner stated that Capon Mills is on the Capon River in Hardy County, West Virginia.

Apart from a few stray pieces of paper and one 1856 receipt that were tucked inside the ledger, it is a single-item collection, all in one box.
