Scope and Contents

The National Center for Developmental Education (NCDE) Records contain mostly correspondence and administrative files pertaining to NCDE and the Kellogg Institute, as well as several media collections including video from educational programs. The records date 1930-1998, though the bulk of the material dates 1975-1998.

Historical Note

The National Center for Developmental Education (NCDE) provides instruction, training programs, research, and other services consistent with the purpose of developmental education and the missions of Appalachian State University and the Reich College of Education. These services are provided to a national audience of professionals dedicated to serving underprepared and disadvantaged college students. Additionally, the NCDE works with and helps to fund the Kellogg Institute, which is the nation's longest running advanced training program for developmental educators and learning skills specialists. The Center was established in 1976, with the Kellogg Institute following in 1980.
