Scope and Contents
This collection is five VHS tapes and four audiocassettes of the November 17-18, 2000 Dr. Jerry Williamson Symposium and Reception held in Boone, North Carolina at Appalachian State University. There are five archival digitized CDs also. The cassette tapes are only the audio portion of contents of VHS and were not digitized. The VHS tapes are numbered 1-4 of the symposium and number 5 of the reception. The audiocassettes are numbered 1-4 of the symposium.

Biographical/Historical Note
Dr. Jerry Williamson has spent many years researching the types and stereotypes of mountain people in film. He was a long-time researcher with the Appalachian Collection at Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina until his retirement, where he also served as editor of the Appalachian Journal for 27 years.
The symposium featured in this audiovisual collection was given in honor of Dr. Williamson and his contributions to the development of regional scholarship through his editorship and his own scholarship. Featured speakers were Patricia Beaver, Sandra Ballard, Loyal Jones, Gordon McKinney, and Robert Morgan, along with several others.

This was processed by Anita Elliott, February 2014. This collection was processed as part of a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The grant funded extensive processing of the backlog within the W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection between 2012 and 2014.
