Abstract
The Elizabeth Brown Scoggins collection contains papers, photographs, documents, and artifacts spanning the history of Appalachian State and Watauga County from the 19th Century to the early 21st. Much of the collection is devoted to the Dougherty, Brown, and Bartlett families with an emphasis on concerning B.B. and D.D. Dougherty, founders of what would become Appalachian State University.

Abstract
B.B. Dougherty was a founder of the Appalachian Training School in 1903. His papers primarily include materials relating to Dr. Dougherty's role as an administrator of Appalachian State Teachers College and predecessor institutions (1903-1955), and his many positions on state boards and committees concerned with the education in North Carolina (1911-1957).
