Abstract J. Paul Winkler was a graduate of Appalachian State Teacher's College. He was instrumental in organizing the Burke County chapter of alumni. The J. Paul Winkler Scrapbooks, created by Winkler himself, are predominately related to the Appalachian State Teachers College football team, but also includes information realted other ASTC athletic teams and to the college.

Scope and Contents This collection contains two items. The first is an original certificate issued by the Appalachian Training School to Martha Blanche Horton on May 2, 1923 for satisfactorily completing studies "not marked." There is a list of courses along both the left and right margins. Those crossed out were not completed by Horton. These others were. The second item is an original diploma issued to Horton by the Appalachian State Normal School, dated August 22, 1925

Scope and Content The Mary Elizabeth Hackney collection contains includes papers,photographs, ephemera, and other items related to Appalachian State Teachers College (ASTC) from 1930-1934 and 1941. Items include ASTC stickers, Homecoming programs, a basketball game program, ASTC yells and songs, Hackney's diploma, and songbooks. Of particular note are the photographs, which mainly feature ASTC women students, some of whom are photographed wearing physical education uniforms.
