The Charles T. Butler Letters is a collection of about 300 letters from Butler's friends and family. The bulk of these letters date from 1937 to 1956. There are a couple letters from 1962 and 1965, as well as many undated letters. Pieces of ephemera and a few photographs are also included in the collection. This collection of 51 letters were written by Boston native Connie Murphy to his sweetheart Ruth Lacy. The letters are dated from 1941 to 1943 and detail Murphy's time with the U.S. Navy from early training days in Rhode Island through his time with the Hospital Corps in Australia. After joining the Navy, Murphy entered the Hospital Corps. The Johnny Rhymer Music and Papers gives a wide assortment of items and memorabilia collected in the life of a fiddler/singer from western North Carolina in the 1940s and 1950s, along with pieces of his and his wife's families' histories and everyday labor and struggles, from old photographs and song lyrics to World War II literature and photographs to Rhymer's musical career and samples of his actual music.
