This collection consists of a ledger kept by Cressler Ore Banks of customer names and charges at a mercantile store. It's dated 1880 April 3-October 29. A monthly running total of charges was kept, so it may have been the company who owned Cressler Ore Banks owed this mercantile for the company employees' charges. The balance was usually paid on the last day of the month.
This collection contains ledgers, correspondence and photographs of the J. S. Stephens Store in Creston (Ashe County), North Carolina Dating from the early 1920s to the late 1990s when the store closed, the records demonstrate country folks' mercantile needs and how important the country store was to a community.
