Aldridge Family photograph
This collection consists of a copy print made from a scan of the original photograph of the Aldridge family of Watauga County, North Carolina. The copy print was likely made in 2008. The original photograph is likely dated circa 1890s. The family members are identified on a photocopy of the print: Harrison, Buchanan (likely Melissa's mother Betsie Buchanan), Sam, Melissa, Charlotte, Davidson, Roy, and Stella.
Andrew Jackson Greene Collection
Materials include 164 notebook diaries of varying sizes (one is missing), six ledgers recording Appalachian State Teachers College faculty meetings, Silas Greene's memo book and typed transcriptions of Greene's diaries. Also included are Deborah Bell's transcriptions of some of the diaries.
Appalachian Consortium records
The Appalachian Consortium, in operation from 1970-2004, was a nonprofit, educational organization formed by a partnership of academic institutions dedicated to preserving the history and enhancing the future of the Southern Appalachian region. This collection contains files detailing the initial organization and continuing leadership of the Consortium, its finances and correspondence, as well as its major projects, grants, publications, and conferences.

The Appalachian Region Photographs collection contains print photographs and negatives of the Appalachian region, mostly Northwestern North Carolina, but also some parts of Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. It contains photographs, slides, and negatives. Images include Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, and Watauga Counties, and unidentified images of towns, people, and museum exhibits.

The Appalachian State University Oral History Projects, Audio Materials and Papers Collection is a mixture of audiocassettes from several oral history projects, conferences, and events, dating in the 1970s-1980s, some of which have been positively identified as to which project the interview is related while others are not. A few transcriptions, CD copies, and duplicates are also part of this collection.

The Department of History was established in 1965 at Appalachian State Teacher’s College and currently offers Bachelor and Masters degrees at Appalachian State University. The Department of History Records contain files created for academic and administrative purposes including budget information, correspondence, course schedule, curricula, faculty information, departmental self-studies and special programs, in addition to other materials.

Elizabeth Brown Scoggins Collection
The Elizabeth Brown Scoggins collection contains papers, photographs, documents, and artifacts spanning the history of Appalachian State and Watauga County from the 19th Century to the early 21st. Much of the collection is devoted to the Dougherty, Brown, and Bartlett families with an emphasis on concerning B.B. and D.D. Dougherty, founders of what would become Appalachian State University.

The Horton Family Papers are a collection of documents accumulated by the Horton family of Watauga County, North Carolina. Jonathan Horton and James Crittenden Horton generated most documents.

The I. Harding Hughes, Jr., Papers document community life in twentieth century Valle Crucis, a small community in Watauga County, North Carolina. The collection consists of 46 oral history interviews recorded on 41 audiocassettes, research notes, news clippings and other materials Hughes used in the creation of his two books, Valle Crucis: A History of an Uncommon Place and My Valle Crucis: The Thirties.

J. Walter Jones, M.D. Records contains the medical ledger books of Dr. Walter Jones of Boone, North Carolina, dating from 1903 to 1924. Each of the four ledgers contain an alphabetical index. Entries are organized by name in order of first visitation and contain date of service, charges, payment date and payment method. Entries also list type of service; i.e., visit, office, medicine, gynecological, surgical.

Jerry Pope and Rebecca Williams Papers consist of oral history interviews of twenty-five Watauga County, North Carolina residents. Jerry Pope and Rebecca Williams' Interdisciplinary Studies students produced oral history audio cassettes and respective transcripts for Pope/Williams' Fall 2001 semester course, "Through the Gates: Performances Ventures Into the Community."

This collection includes a broadside issues by Wilkes County, North Carolina "in the matter of Bank of Wilkes," dated August 1, 1927, paper check examples issued by the Watauga County Bank (1928-1929, 1932), a bank statement (1932) for Mrs. J. A. Williams, and a broadside announcing the reorganization of the Watauga County Bank, dated December 28, 1933. One of the paper checks belonged to the account of Rebecca Boone Tea Room: Stationery-Candies."
