Abstract The Department of Government and Justice Studies, formerly called the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice, is a part of the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University. This collection contains documents pertaining to the operations of the department and University groups, including correspondence, meeting minutes, course change and curriculum change proposals.

Abstract The Department of Sociology and Social Work existed from 1989 to 2008 when it became two separate departments: the Department of Sociology and the Department of Social Work. This collection includes correspondence and proposals concerning the development and evolution of the Bachelor of Social Work degree program, as led by Nancy K. Neale. This collection also includes materials on Ford Venture Grant, which assisted the funding the social work program.

Abstract The Department of History was established in 1965 at Appalachian State Teacher’s College and currently offers Bachelor and Masters degrees at Appalachian State University. The Department of History Records contain files created for academic and administrative purposes including budget information, correspondence, course schedule, curricula, faculty information, departmental self-studies and special programs, in addition to other materials.

Abstract The Office of Summer Sessions currently coordinates and administrates ASU’s summer academics. The Office of Summer Sessions Records contain historical, administrative and promotional material dating 1961-2005, with bulk dates of 1983-1994.

Abstract The College of Education was established in 1968 (named for Lois Reich in 1987) and currently houses six departments offering a variety of programs leading to bachelor, masters and doctoral degrees. The Reich College of Education Records contain mostly administrative files from the College of Education and the Dean’s Office dating 1953-2003.
