Abstract The Department of Athletics oversees all intercollegiate athletic programs at Appalachian State University (ASU) under the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). These records contain administrative files as well as files relating to athletics programs, the Southern Conference, the Athletics Council, and other ephemeral material, dating 1952-1999.

Abstract J. Paul Winkler was a graduate of Appalachian State Teacher's College. He was instrumental in organizing the Burke County chapter of alumni. The J. Paul Winkler Scrapbooks, created by Winkler himself, are predominately related to the Appalachian State Teachers College football team, but also includes information realted other ASTC athletic teams and to the college.

Abstract John A. Pritchett Jr. came to ASU in 1955. as the audio-visual director. He retired after 37 years of service and in 1991 he was made Professor Emeritus of Curriculum and Instruction. The John A. Pritchett Photograph Collection contains negatives taken between 1952-1960. Subjects include sports, dances, ASTC campus and students, student activities, and faculty. The photographer is unknown.

Abstract Dr. John Workman was Professor of Economics at Appalachian State Teachers College from 1946 to 1960. The John Workman Film Collection includes 16 8mm films, both black & white and in color, mostly pertaining to ASTC and the High Country. There is also 1 VHS tape with copies of 5 of the films.
Abstract Francis T. Borkowski served as Appalachian State University's fifth chancellor from 1993 until 2003. The records reflect the academic and administrative operations within the university, interactions with higher education organizations in North Carolina and the South, athletic programs, cultural outreach efforts, student life, relations with Boone, N.C. and other communities in western North Carolina, alumni relations, and fundraising for the university.
