Abstract

The Appalachian Consortium, in operation from 1970-2004, was a nonprofit, educational organization formed by a partnership of academic institutions dedicated to preserving the history and enhancing the future of the Southern Appalachian region. This collection contains files detailing the initial organization and continuing leadership of the Consortium, its finances and correspondence, as well as its major projects, grants, publications, and conferences.

Abstract

German conductor Hans Schwieger was the first music director for the Kansas City Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held from 1948 to 1971. His papers contain photographs, scrapbooks, recordings, annotated scores, correspondence, concert programs and awards relating primarily to his career as a conductor.

Abstract

Onnie Mell Busbin Jr. was a professor of Library Science at Appalachian State University from 1967-1991. Busbin's papers are mainly from his tenure at Appalachian State University and include his teaching materials and syllabi, as well as various correspondence, news clippings, and audiocassettes. Busbin has researched and contributed to the field of library science, with his expertise in conservation, preservation, and children’s literature.

Abstract This collection contains oral history interviews conducted between 1956 and 2000. This oral history collections includes primarily former administrators, faculty, staff, retirees and students of Appalachian State University. Found in this collection are interviews of significant people like B.B. Dougherty, Satie Broyhill, Cratis Williams, Herbert Wey, Francis Borkowski, W.H. Plemmons, and Dr. Richard Howe.
