J. Paul Winkler was a graduate of Appalachian State Teacher's College. He was instrumental in organizing the Burke County chapter of alumni. The J. Paul Winkler Scrapbooks, created by Winkler himself, are predominately related to the Appalachian State Teachers College football team, but also includes information realted other ASTC athletic teams and to the college.

The Mary Elizabeth Hackney collection contains includes papers,photographs, ephemera, and other items related to Appalachian State Teachers College (ASTC) from 1930-1934 and 1941. Items include ASTC stickers, Homecoming programs, a basketball game program, ASTC yells and songs, Hackney's diploma, and songbooks.
